Orbit Determination of Double-lined Spectroscopic Binaries by Fitting the Revised Hipparcos Intermediate Astrometric Data
Untill now, the Hipparcos intermediate astrometric data (HIAD) havecontributed little to the full orbit determination of double-linedspectroscopic binaries (SB2s). This is because the photocenter of such abinary system is usually not far from the system mass center, and itsorbital wobble is generally weak with respect to the accuracy of theHIAD. However, the HIAD have been recently revised and the accuracy isincreased by a factor of 2.2 in the total weight. Therefore, it isinteresting to see if the revised HIAD can be used in the orbitdetermination at least for some SB2s. In this paper, we first search the9th Catalogue of Orbits of Spectroscopic Binaries (S B9 ) for SB2s with reliable spectroscopic orbitalsolutions and with periods between 50 days and 3.2 years. This leaves uswith 56 systems. The full orbital solutions of these systems are thendetermined from the HIAD by a highly efficient grid search methoddeveloped in this paper. The high efficiency is achieved by reducing thenumber of nonlinear model parameters to one, and by allowing allparameters to be adjustable within a region centered at each grid point. After a variety of tests, we finally accept orbital solutions of 13systems. Among these systems, six (HIP 677, 20894, 87895, 95995, 101382,and 111170) are well resolved with reliable interferometric data.Orbital solutions from these data are consistent with our results. Thefull orbital solutions of the other seven systems (HIP 9121, 17732,32040, 57029, 76006, 102431, and 116360) are determined for the firsttime.

SB9: The ninth catalogue of spectroscopic binary orbits
The Ninth Catalogue of Spectroscopic Binary Orbits(http://sb9.astro.ulb.ac.be) continues the series of compilations ofspectroscopic orbits carried out over the past 35 years by Batten andcollaborators. As of 2004 May 1st, the new Catalogue holds orbits for2386 systems. Some essential differences between this catalogue and itspredecessors are outlined and three straightforward applications arepresented: (1) completeness assessment: period distribution of SB1s andSB2s; (2) shortest periods across the H-R diagram; (3)period-eccentricity relation.

Reprocessing the Hipparcos Intermediate Astrometric Data of spectroscopic binaries. II. Systems with a giant component
By reanalyzing the Hipparcos Intermediate Astrometric Data of a largesample of spectroscopic binaries containing a giant, we obtain a sampleof 29 systems fulfilling a carefully derived set of constraints andhence for which we can derive an accurate orbital solution. Of these, one is a double-lined spectroscopic binary and six were not listed inthe DMSA/O section of the catalogue. Using our solutions, we derive themasses of the components in these systems and statistically analyzethem. We also briefly discuss each system individually.Based on observations from the Hipparcos astrometric satellite operatedby the European Space Agency (ESA 1997) and on data collected with theSimbad database.

Vitesses radiales. Catalogue WEB: Wilson Evans Batten. Subtittle: Radial velocities: The Wilson-Evans-Batten catalogue.
We give a common version of the two catalogues of Mean Radial Velocitiesby Wilson (1963) and Evans (1978) to which we have added the catalogueof spectroscopic binary systems (Batten et al. 1989). For each star, when possible, we give: 1) an acronym to enter SIMBAD (Set ofIdentifications Measurements and Bibliography for Astronomical Data) ofthe CDS (Centre de Donnees Astronomiques de Strasbourg). 2) the numberHIC of the HIPPARCOS catalogue (Turon 1992). 3) the CCDM number(Catalogue des Composantes des etoiles Doubles et Multiples) byDommanget & Nys (1994). For the cluster stars, a precise study hasbeen done, on the identificator numbers. Numerous remarks point out theproblems we have had to deal with.

CA II H and K measurements made at Mount Wilson Observatory, 1966-1983
Summaries are presented of the photoelectric measurements of stellar CaII H and K line intensity made at Mount Wilson Observatory during theyears 1966-1983. These results are derived from 65,263 individualobservations of 1296 stars. For each star, for each observing season, the maximum, minimum, mean, and variation of the instrumental H and Kindex 'S' are given, as well as a measurement of the accuracy ofobservation. A total of 3110 seasonal summaries are reported. Factorswhich affect the ability to detect stellar activity variations andaccurately measure their amplitudes, such as the accuracy of the H and Kmeasurements and scattered light contamination, are discussed. Relationsare given which facilitate intercomparison of 'S' values with residualintensities derived from ordinary spectrophotometry, and for convertingmeasurements to absolute fluxes.

Meridian observations made with the Carlsberg Automatic Meridian Circle at Brorfelde (Copenhagen University Observatory) 1981-1982
The 7-inch transit circle instrument with which the present position andmagnitude catalog for 1577 stars with visual magnitudes greater than11.0 was obtained had been equipped with a photoelectric moving slitmicrometer and a minicomputer to control the entire observationalprocess. Positions are reduced relative to the FK4 system for each nightover the whole meridian rather than the usual narrow zones. Thepositions of the FK4 stars used in the least squares solution are alsogiven in the catalog.

A two-color photometric system for the near infrared
A new two-color system for photoelectic photometry has been devised toaid interpretation of near-infrared photographs taken on the IV-Nemulsion. The system should also lend itself to applications usingsilicon diode detectors. This paper describes the instrumentation, establishment of standard stars, and transformation to other systems. Inaddition, photoelectric sequences are given for some fields near thegalactic plane.
